I used to think as you do. Now, I'm not about to win any beauty contests, but I found that the attractive guys that were into me at the bars I went to only wanted to fuck and chuck me. Took me a while to realize that the bars are just meat markets and the chance of finding something meaningful there was slim to none. My advice is to join a local gay club that get together to do a hobby that you're interested in.
