Metacarpal Fracture/Boxers Fracture - Cast and Pin Removal

I broke the 5th Metacarpal Biking.. This is also known as a boxers fracture.

Originally the bone moved 35 degrees making it so i didnt have to get pins but surley enough it moved making me get pins in my metacarpal. They put me to sleep during the surgery and woke me up a hour later. Now that i have got my pins out it feels like it is still broke, i am unable to move it upward but surely enough im sure it will get back into its original position..

Hi Jakewars, how is your recovery nearly 1 yr later? I'm having the exact same w pinky and ring finger pins come out Saturday, so I'm curious!

@sirensongsindia My hand is fully recovered, the pins are no big deal. Just make sure you stretch the hand, (dont overdue it though!)

I have broken my tibia, and I have one quick question. @jakewars does it eventually get completely to where it was before the injury?

I got boxers fracture and I want to know will my hand be exactly the same as before as if it never happened after it heals or will it not move as well and if I had another x-ray after would it look like the rest of my bones.

I suppose what am asking is will the be any permanent damage even a little or will it be as if it never happened???

I broke my 5th on my right hand and didn't go to the hospital. So it healed by forming more bone around the break. And tomorrow I go for hand thearapy but I am thinking the only way to get as close to normal as before is to have the Doctor rebrake it and put it in the correct position then let it heal. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. I just want to do what is best for my hand. Thanks for posting your experience. And I hope your back to 100 percent.

I had to big rods down my leg and they let me keep them when they took them out

dude, if your only sixteen, i think you wouldnt have to have pins- mainly because as its healing, your body is growing and it should line itself back up, but i was only 13 when i broke mine, and also it was just jammed back and to the right.

i broke my 4th metacarpal like a year ago cause i got mad and punched a bed. i had to get 3 pins and a soft cast. it sucked and it hurt like a bitch getting the pins out
