Helge Lindberg (1898-1973) One of the best Swedish composer and orchestra leader (In my personal opinion the best) during the twenties. In the thirties there will become more and better orchestras but during the twenties he was the best. As composer he was found of using an exotic theme. Reflected in titles like, Buddha, Baghdad, Samarkand, Waipuu, Nang-Ping, Madrid and, as here, Florida. Today, Florida might not seam to be so exotic but I'm sure Lindberg never imagined that the world should be so small that people in Florida actually easily would listen to his foxtrot.
Take also a look at an ageing Lindberg live, from a Swedish television broadcast 1967, he plays three of his compositions in a medley. You find it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTmNr7nDN5A
I uploaded the other side of this record before you find it here (Sorry about bad sound, I was not so used to YT at that time) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jhke1ushMuw
other good Lindberg upload, you find at my friend Emidictas channel;http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHBFlWpdX5w or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0faHx0uyx_I
Vocal is done uncredited by Hilmer Borgeling (1903-1969) a very popular Swedish singer that recorded over 900 records until he left his career around the end of the forties.
Recorded in Stockholm April 1930

  • A nice tune !

When started Polyphon/Gramophon to record in Stockholm?

  • @formiggini I'm don't know exactly but during the aucoustic period they did thier own recordings, later with electric recordings, the problem was the equipment. And from the beginning I think they borrowed it from Germany. As far as I know Swedish Polyphon never had a studio, they recorded mainly in cinemas. That's why there can be recordings done in Berlin in same time as they recorded some records in Stockholm it was mainly a question if they could borrow equipment or not.

  • @scala78 From the point of sound quality, I think Stockholm used the later "Polyfar" recording system. Electric system started with the german grammophon in late 1925, using the "light ray" system from Brunswick - with the typical boxy , almost accoustic sound.

In 1927 Grammophon/Polyphon used their own "Polyfar" system.

I never heard with your posts one record with the "boxy" sound, recorded in Stockholm.

  • Mycket bra !
