GATHERING OUR ALUMNI: AN OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN AND EXCHANGE
October 8 10, 2009, RELO Richard Boyum and RELS Helmara Moraes conducted a workshop with English teachers from the private and public school sectors in Brazil. In total, we gathered sixteen alumni from different regions of the country and five teachers/coordinators from União Cultural Brasil-Estados Unidos and Associação Alumni, our binational centers in São Paulo and partners in this program. Funds came from the State Alumni Office in Washington, through the State Alumni Competition, and the RELO. Our alumni had previously taken part in the following programs: E-Teacher (online courses), FLTA (Foreign Language Teaching Assistant) and ILEP (International Leaders in Education). This training was divided in three major sessions. In the first, each group presented an overview of the programs and had the chance to share their experiences. In the two other sessions, they were trained to use the Shaping the way we teach English, a set of materials (including videos) for Teacher Training. It was an extremely valuable experience, bringing new ideas and insights into participants teaching practices.
