when i was young, maybe 5 or 6 years old, i watched this all the time. It really is a great movie, weather or not you understand the time period and all the WWII stuff behind it, but watching this scene again with the meaning behind it... you just can't believe how brave they were, and what meaning "edelweiss" had for everyone there... great movie...

@LankanTVPresenter They actually weren't going to let him sing, but during this time the Nazis were trying to convince everyone in Austria that "nothing has changed" to prevent an uproar. So Captain VonTrapp convinced them by saying "you said that nothing would change in Austria". Thus, making them hypocrites if they didn't let them sing. Basically they used the Nazi's words against themselves.
it's amazing that you can make a decent song about tea and jam :D i love this movie
