We remember Christopher Hart Ayres (1948-1991)

Here he is, fooling around at the piano with my video camera going. I think we recorded this to send to his family in Georgia. Chris Ayres was an accomplished classically trained pianist from Plains, Georgia who moved to San Francisco in the 1970s and played the better hotels and some gay bars, too. After Liza Minnelli heard him one night at L'Etoile (Nob Hill) she recommended Chris for a lucrative position at a hotel in Palm Springs, where he lived in the 1980s. In the pre-AIDS era he hosted an annual Sunday brunch for his bar pianist friends at his Upper Market Street (Argent Street) apartment.
