Deutz BF12L413F , 1169 cubic inch V12, twin turbo, 430 HP, resurrected! Came from the junkyard, don't know much of the history of it. It was not running when I got it, so a few days and $$$ later it's running!
I want to mate this to a MD3060 Alisson transmission and use it for my 1929 Ford Model AA, 1.5 ton flatbed version of the venerable model A.

  • sounds like it's missin on 3 of the 12, and knocking like hell, I wouldn't run her like that!

  • @PhillyBluntz86 no just the one intake valve was broken. I did a cylinder balance test, the rest is fine.

  • I pulled the head and found that one of the valves broke .. I already bought the new valve, need to put it back together..

  • Nice engine, I'm curious though, how common are these engines in the States? I would imagine they would be german.... correct?? I really don't know much about these engines or their origins, but I do like the fact the they did manufature air-cooled diesel engines.

  • @pskittle488 yes they are german, these are not common at all. You do see a fair number of the smaller 2-4 cyl Deutz tractor engines (i.e. F4L913) but these big ones are very rare. But all the parts are readily available from the dealer - for a price. Yea you can get the same torque and horsepower from a Cat or Cummins anyday but I also liked it that these are aircooled.

  • Excellent vid and work man!! I love that engine! It would be great fun tinkering with that engine.

How much did the engine cost?

Will that Deutz fit in a Ford Model AA?? It looks pretty wide and im guessing its VERY heavy. How many gears the the Allison MD3060 have?

Hope it works out well man!!

I have about a billion other more technical questions, but ill spare you the pain. YouTube isnt the best for tech talk, lol.

  • @Xx69roadrunnerxX The MD3060 is a 6-speed, 5 is overdrive and 6 is a double overdrive! With 3.5:1 axle ratio I will be running 1450 rpm at 65 mph !

  • @castirondude Sounds great, good luck with the project!

  • @castirondude Nice! Sounds sweet man!

  • @Xx69roadrunnerxX I paid $1800 for the engine.. which is exactly half of what the guy was asking. But at the time I didn't even know if it would run!

I'm not going to put a hood on there, so yea it will fit. I can move the fenders out some if needed :-)

I'm building my own front suspension around a dana 60 so it will be a 4x4!

I'm putting dually wheels on a non-dually axle (19.5 rims will clear the brakes and look close to the original 20" wheels) and that will make it narrower
