  • Best way I've found is to drop the Crank Gear before you hit the hill keeping the rear gears as high as possible. Then when im on the hill and the incline is changing all I have to do is drop the back gears as needed. No grinding but sometimes you get it wrong and need to drop another gear in the front. Just support your weight on your arms (taking off the weight on legs) and turn the pedals lightly into a lower setting

  • @LiveAndSmokin thanks for the tip. The more the better!

  • @Kas1mBoy, I'm so sorry it took me so long to reply...do you ease up on the pressure you apply on the pedals? I wasn't sure from your comment. Whe Ken is saying, is that changing gears while pushing on the pedals at the same time is what causes the grinding noise which is why he says build up some speed and then coast for a split second while you change the gear and ease into reapplying the pressure on the pedal. Hope this helps!

  • Just replace your chain, freewheel / cassette, and shifter cable and the bicycle will shift like new.

  • @fividotcom Your welcome. Glad to see someone doing these video tutorials. As you said, the more tips the better. Gears sometimes get me on a variable climb, but reading the hills better now days which seems to be the main thing

  • i still dont know what the gears are four and why their r so many

  • I ride a fixed.. no shifting ever needed!!

  • awesome! really helpful

  • and oh..I've also applied changing to first gear of front when going downhill (bak gear 7) and keeping the front gear at 1 and i change the bak gears but the grinding noise is there

  • I don't understand the middle part where you explain to ease the pressure for the front gears to work. It doesnt work for me. I have 7 gears at bak and 3 at front so when im going say in 4th gear on a straight road..my front gear stay on number 2 always (uphill or downhill)..but when im going downhill i change my back gears to 7 and ONLY then i can change the front gears to 3 or 1...but i cant change the front gear to 1 when normal cycling..I do ease pressure but just doesnt work.
