From WFMY News 2 story on May 17, 2009:
Kernersville, NC - Celebrities tweet, companies tweet and now you can add a Triad church to that list.
Calvary Chapel of the Triad uses Twitter to reach people in the community.
"We actually had someone give their life to the lord, through Twitter," said Pastor David McGee. "I will do anything short of sin to reach folks."
An assistant pastor actually sends out the tweets on the social networking website. The messages center around the day's sermon, verse references and other biblical commentary. Tweeters can then ask questions or discuss the sermon as a group. So far, 132 people follow the Kernersville church on Twitter and Assistant Pastor Shawn Bumpers says more are signing up everyday.
"We averaged 30 new followers last week," said Bumpers. "God created us to be creative, to be innovative so that's what we're trying to do. To stay on top of technology and be innovative in reaching people."
McGee says Twitter allows people who are unable come to church to still be a part of the service. Calvary Chapel of the Triad is on Facebook, Myspace and streams their services live on the web. You can follow the church on Twitter on Sunday mornings.
