I agree man. It's not the fighter's fault and in the heat of battle it can be really hard to stop. It's not easy being a ref, but you gotta be on the ball!

Incompetent refs make the sport look bad, not the fighter that's hitting an unconscious guy on the floor.

If Anthony had just hit him once and Castillo had recovered and got back up ready to fight, that would have been a bad move by Pettis and for what, because he is changing the way he fights because the ref might not be able to do his job right?

I would keep hitting/tightening the choke until the ref stopped it, because that's the rules and that how the sport goes :)

Yeah man that's a good call and one I agree with. I just never like to see unconscious guys getting whaled on like that. Although there have been much worse late stoppages (see Joe Warren vs Pat Curran or Chris Weidman vs Mark Munoz). It doesn't make the sport look good.

well I thought you meant a stop right after the kick, cause I remembered seeing the ref come in right after that, but I didn't see those 5 or 6 punches, I thought he only got 2 or 3 in. So I think the ref came in at the right time, but was too damn slow to stop it.

Perfect timing? Wow it's a good job you're not a ref yourself. The ref should have stopped immediately the instant Pettis was pounding on Castillo's defenceless face. Instead he dawdled and bumbled his way around the side of the fighters before finally waving it off, when he should have just grabbed Pettis from behind shouting 'STOP!' That way he would have taken one or two blows to his unconscious face instead of 5 or 6,
