  • Atheism and Skepticism differ.

Atheism is simply a non-belief in gods.

Many of the new age religions post no god(s).

So atheists can believe in various psychic or paranormal phenomena.

    But not a Skeptic.

Some Atheists are Skeptics, but not all.

This might explain what you are observing.

  • But how can someone be an atheist without being skeptical? Is it just to piss their parents off? How intellectually dishonest.

  • Check out the Hoagy Wilson How Do Guide, "How to Talk to Your New Age Relative". It's an ebook on Amazon - works on any device. Funny and informative for those who want a take on this...

  • there IS no new religion. Those who claim they create new religion(s) think they are gods but they're nothing but only creations, normal human beings like the rest of us.

I think they're entirely outta their fucked up minds. Laughing my ass off.

  • A person can direct thier skepticism. You may be skeptical about global warming but simply not apply that skepticism to your faith. Another note, just a point of interest. If you remove the idols, ceromonies & politics from religion, in every case you are left with an underlying spirituality. This concept is harmonious throughout all religions, it is only thier symbolism that clashes. There are some interesting ideas about energy, consciousness & spirit worth exploring I think.

  • Thanks for the response, I share your frustration.

  • Some people just don't believe in the existence of gods. There are some very unintellectual atheists.

It is not necessarily intellectual dishonesty.

Again, once can be an atheism yet not a skeptic.
