  • @jblacktree Do you remember hearing the First Edition, "Just Dropped In To See What Condition My Condition Was In" coming through Jimi's Marshall? Jimi goes, "Oooh, I love that psychedelic music!" Dave Workman was no longer with the Dantes when they opened for Hendrix, they called themselves "Life" and the guitarist had a white Showman and a Gibson 345. I had an original ticket poster, it was bought by a collector in 1994 for the Dave Clark restaurant in Columbus, OH.

  • WOW again. I remember the 4 O'Clock Balloon as playing that night, but could easily be wrong. Hendrix was shatteringly loud and the acoustics not made for those volumes but his work blew me away and ruined me for other guitarists for years.

  • I too remember the Vets Concert; the Who cover was "Whiskey Man". Soft Machine was also there as a warmup act. was a 65 grad myself

  • I was in high school with the Dantes--before Hayden had long hair--and remember the Jaguars. But I was a year older. 64 grad. made a HUGE difference. Did see the famous Vets Memorial Hendrix show.Barry faked a Brit accent to intro a Who cover. Jerry Razer? Wow. Used to do those pool dance parties and Bob Seger would show up and lip sync 2 Plus 2.

  • i was in a band called the jaguars back in school {eastmoor}{66 or 67} and had the misfortune to play aginst the dantes in a battle of the bands at valley dale with host jerry razer..

we had silvertone amps...they vox and fender..

we made a 12 string out of an old kay guitar so we could play some byrd tunes..

    dave had a rickenbacker 12 string....sigh!

we got killed.but we knew we would .ah, good times.

the dantes and rebounds played for the title,

grease vs new sound..the dantes won.

  • yea....i played drums in a band called the jaguars while still in high school and had the misfortune to play aginst the dantes at valley dale in a battle of the bands [jerry razer was the host...around "66" or "67".}

we had silvertone amps...they had vox and fender.

we made a 12 string out of an old kay guitar so we could do some byrd tunes.

    dave had a rickenbacker 12 string...sigh!

we got killed but we knew we were outclassed from the start.

    good times!!

  • had an accuaintanceship w/Dave back then myself, friend of a friend (Chuck White of the Heard). Dantes used to cover a lot of Byrds too. Dave's was the first Rickenbacker I ever saw live.

  • I'm too lazy to do a followup now, but I think if you do a Google search for the Dantes, you'll find a link to one of the guys sites........They did a "reunion" show in Mansfield or someplace like that a couple years ago.......maybe they're going to do another......

  • Yeah yeah yeah. I was also a fan of the Dantes and saw them many times at Valley Dale! What great times. Anybody know what the rest of the guys (Carter Holliday, Barry Hayden, Joey Hinton and Len Weir) are doing these days?

  • i knew dave when he was with the dantas back in the 60's in columbus ohio...he was a yardbirds and stones fan..and bb king...and albert too.

so glad he is still kickin' it!!

    killer then and killer now
