OK, the lens is very nice for someone working with a system as a desktop. Yes it needs work, but you already know that. The one thing I would really like to see is more Playlist controls and options, scheduled playback, mixing content types etc., but I think that requires more help from the MythTV developers, and once that's in place add the functionality to the unity scopes.

I'm assuming by "playlist controls" you want the ability to add videos to a playlist. If that is the case, that seems better handled by Unity (and IIRC is actually in the works). What exactly do you mean by mixing content types?

I'll be blunt, I'm not a fan of the Unity interface especially as my TV interface. I sure as all get out don't want a clock burning into my TV, notifications constantly popping up while watching a movie, etc. If that works for you, great.

Add in other features. Many remotes now have red, green, blue, yellow buttons. Instead of a photo slide show, have a trivia challenge using those buttons for input. System periodically pulls down weather information and if there is an emergency declared at any time, use OSD to present that to the viewer.

If the show is about to begin, but the random music play just picked a song that will take 18 min to play, then just before the movie is to begin, fade the music out.

Playlist controls in my mind might better be considered Scheduled Plaback. Let's say I'm inviting friends over for Friday night. We're going to watch a couple of movies, one showing at 8, the next at 10. The movie at 8 is 90 min, and I'm going to have 30 min of time to fill between. Perhaps 5 of that will be a theatrical previews of the next movie, but I want to fill the rest with music and a slide show of photos from some photo-album. Perhaps preview for the next party.

In my view MythTV is not just about scheduling video capture, and watching movies. It also includes managing photo content, video clips, and music at the very least. It should allow the user to intelligently manage all the content that may be available at an entertainment center.

More in a moment on playlist control.
