I have no problem with religion on the street , Its is faith in the political office and having it turned into a pulpit thats the problem.
When very serious things like foreign policy get flipped into a fire and brimstone " the righteous vs the wicked" is when things will and already have start to get dangerous.
Why should the Bible be in the courtroom? How many of our laws are based on the Bible, as opposed to just coinciding with it? Sure, the Bible condemns murder and stealing, but we have secular reasons for doing that as well.
What about stoning adulterers? Or people that don't honor the sabbath? Or unruly children? Should we execute homosexuals? The Bible isn't a good source for science OR morality/law, and our founders recognized that.
"On religious terms, America is a century behind Europe."
That's a laugh. You guys still have a state church, state-funded faith schools, and you're calling us backward? The British population may be more secular, but things that would be shockingly theocratic here in America are commonplace in the UK. The United States is the only country in the world with a truly secular government.
Who's faith? I don't have a problem with prayer in schools as long as the teachers aren't initiating it. Prayer shouldn't be forced that's the issue with prayer in schools.
Also, GOd should not be in the pledge of allegeance because it alludes that people who don't believe in God are not patriotic. And that's required for all school children to state. Religion is about freedom, not force.
Our funding fathers were Enlightenment-era deists that conversed with French deists like Voltaire, Rousseau and Diderot. They believed in a creator, but one that did not play an intervening role in the daily lives of men. Ergo, the American republic was not intended to be a faith-based experiment. This is basic History 101 type stuff.
I agree w/ you all the way on this one. I can see how some may say you are using religion to win, but as a candidate, you must make your stances known. We need to know that you won't take the bible out of the courtroom, "in God we trust" off the money, ect...
