Title: "I Am..." Project - A Virtual Tour of Ancient & Medieval Epic Heroes
Teachers: Kelli Etheredge & Catherine McPhillips

Overview: Students are given the role of curator for the Museum of Culture & Society and tasked with creating a museum exhibit that educates students on the influence of epics in society. Specifically, students read excerpts from ancient and medieval epics and summarize key facts related to the epics. Students then analyze how the epics influenced the societal values of the youth of that age as well as analyze how the epics have influenced modern society and culture. To demonstrate knowledge, student-groups create a video virtual tour of an epic hero.

Significant Results/Learnings: Students learned about copyright law and digital citizenship and gained mastery of Office Live, OneNote, PowerPoint, AutoCollage, VoiceThread and research sites. They gained analytical skills in not only reading challenging literature but in surmising the importance of literature to society. In short, the students gained a deeper understanding of the epics; their knowledge went well beyond rote memorization and regurgitation of facts. They also learned invaluable skills of time management and collaboration.
