Northern Vermont Ballet performance of "Jamie Art" an original contemporary ballet piece choreographed by Director and certified ABT Instructor, Maryellen Vickery at Dibden Center for the Arts June 11, 2011.
Choreography for "Jamie Art" is inspired by the strength and resilience of Maryellen's fellow artist, Jamie, of Jeffersonville, Vermont. Jamie was severely injured in 2001 at the age of 19 in a terrible head on car crash from a reckless driver which left her paralyzed from her neck down.
With physical therapy, pool therapy, and through her determination, Jamie has gained enough movement in her now dominant left arm to enable her to paint. Painting helps Jamie deal with the emotional trauma of the crash and the numerous life changes she has had to endure. Jamie says her parents and sister have helped her stay strong and positive.
