The controversy over the Park 51 Project (Islamic Center in Lower Manhattan) is indicative of a general rise in racist bigotry towards people of color in this country. While the issue has its particular and unique distinctions, it cannot be separated from the rising violence against African Americans and Latinos, or the increasingly inflammatory rhetoric and exclusionary politics driving the national debate on immigration.

As African-American Muslims, we feel our unique perspective has been missing from an emerging national discussion. We wish to join that discussion by first of all affirming that among our forbears are Muslims who have lived peacefully and productively in this country since its inception. They, and others among our people have sacrificed too much, both in enduring the horrors and brutalities of chattel slavery, and during the long march to freedom, civil and human rights for us to silently accept a return to Jim Crow exclusionary practices and policies that relegate either ourselves or our co-religionists from other ethnic backgrounds to second-class citizenry.

We commend all of those Jews, Christians and members of other faith and ethnic communities who have raised their voices in defense of the constitutional rights of all Americans. We also laud the work that other Muslim organizations have done in response to the current situation. We add our voice to theirs and will work for a country that reflects the diversity of its people and extends full and equal rights to all.

CAAM Will:

* Work to expose the underlying foreign and domestic agenda being served by the ongoing demonization of Muslims;

* Be a voice for those who have been intimidated into silence;

* Establish networks between organizations representing those elements of the population, regardless of race or religion who are suffering as a result of the politics of fear and exclusion.

  • @tjj70 so you cant be racist if your black or mexican is that what your saying? because ive heard some extremly racial things coming from black, mexican and muslim very little if anything from the white side, and ive been keeping up pretty good with that kind of stuff the naacp and cair have both called people that oppose the mosque islamaphobic without any proof, naacp called the t party and it was unfounded so i think i know who the real racist are

  • IS in embeded in our structures such as laws, economics, schools, and courts. Until we can address those instituions effectively then we can stop discussing "race"... Holla Back!!!!

  • instituional racism is the core problem in this world. I think it's a cop-out when people call out black leaders as racist and keeping up the issues on race. Instituional racism/ silent racism of "established and respected forces in the society" IR is less overt, far more subtle, less identifiable in terms of specific individuals committing the acts, but is no less destructive of human life.

  • @thomas242007 who is "most of us"? "If you don't understand racism meaning white supermacy, then everything else that you think you understand will only confuse you". You need to READ!!!! RESEARCH!!!!! WAKE UP!!!!!!

  • @tjj70 most us dont care about color but like i said he does hes one of the people thats keeping racism alive by making everything about black white and muslim if wasnt for people like him naacp, cair, la raza and yes even the kkk to some extent the amount of racism in america would be greatly reduced we need to move on past the race thing and start talking about real issues, not everything is because your black white or muslim farrahlhan needs to stop obbessing about race

  • @thomas242007 would you speak like this to jews who would never let anyone to forget what happen in their history? Farrahkhan nor Rev. Wright NEVER hung any white men nor women and childern. We must never forget what happen to our people. I LOVE Farrhakhan and Rev. Wright for speaking up to power. Do your self a favor and research the Truth. The greatest fear of white men is an educated Black Man who knows knowledge of self. A white man can never tell my story and history of my people.

  • @thomas242007 He has opened up over 10 schools for the education of our people he has opened 2 farms to feed our people he has a printing press in which he prints a weekly news paper to inform our people and day in and day out he teaches our people a knowledge of self...... NOW WHAT HAVE U DONE

  • @tjj70 im not saying america is perfect weve made our mistakes but we have moved past and obviously mr farrahkhan hasnt and for the most part most of us have moved on and dont listen to these racist idiots like the kkk and farrahkhan and jeremiah wright

  • @thomas242007 let me enlighten you on amerikkka history and recommed you read "The white racial frame" and "Racist America" first and second edition. by Joe R. Feagin. and by the way the author of both books is white. after that reply so we can have a constructive debate on race, which is discussed in every area in our world, so deal with it.

  • @zomuhammad22 so what has he done for black people specifically except keeping the image of you all being victims he needs to get past the victim thing and move on it was horrible but it happened indians have had much worst done to them than blacks have atleast blacks werent hunted like animal atleast you all got food and shelter and made a little bit of money indians didnt get shit
