The United Nations human rights chief has called for an independent investigation into whether war crimes were committed in the final stages of Sri Lanka's civil war.

Navi Pillay, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, said there was reason to believe that the government and the Tamil Tigers had "grossly disregarded the fundamental principle of the inviolability of civilians".

  • there are innocent tamils and innocent sinhalese. all the innocent people should be allowed basic human rights and it is absolutely horrible that all of those people who happen to be tamil and almost all of them civillian and almost all of them badly wounded are being kept in what sounds like concetration camps just to "keep the few bad ones from doing bad things" - its not the right way to go about that. there are bad tamils but god that is just wrong. my heart is crying.
