Nothing planned/rehearsed -- I was working on configuring my 35mm adapter to my XH-A1. The idea of the test was to (a) get the adapter working, and (2) [yes, I switched to numbers] test the capabilities of the adapter.

I used two prime lenses:
Nikon 50mm f1.8 prime
Nikon 24mm f2.8 prime

The majority of shots were shot @ 50mm. The primary shutter speed was 1/48th, with a 1/6th neutral density filter, +0 to +6 dB gain, auto white balance, manual focused, Panavision stock preset, with the image stabilizer off.

If you can see part of the achromat during some of the shots, it's because I haven't disabled the zoom rockers on the camera, and I think I may have accidentally zoomed out from the achromat while shooting from the hip.

  • what camera and stuff are you using? i ask because im trying to find the best thing to make a music video with.

  • Great depth of field!

I made an adapter of my own, check out my videos if you'd like to see it in action.

  • Nice Honda!

  • The vignetting effect can actually be eliminated by doing back focusing of the focus screen inside the M2 to the lens that gets mounted on the front. It's a very nasty and time consuming process. It took me close to 2 tedious hours to set mine up.

  • You can use a Zoom. I do it all the time. Never had a problem and I get the best results from them.

  • My experience it has been close to 2 stops.

  • its supposed to be there, it gives it a more film look feel

  • good DOF but why is there a dark Halo on the edges? 70% of the footage I'm seeing using these 35mm adapters have that dark halo. Is that a problem with the glass? Seems like it's pretty common.

  • Amazing depth of field! I must get it for my XL2! :D And a great quality indeed! :)

  • video quality AWESOME what did you use to encode, well to upload to you tube...
