I Don't know about the US, but in Australia there are several gyms now doing exactly that. they run all (or most) of their excercise bikes through a generator and back into the grid and have a much reduced energy cost.

Is it possible for a GT inverter to malfunction and cause the meter to spin faster (not in reverse) and actually raise your electricity consumption.

Could the GT inverter get confused and instead of sending current to grid it actually pulls energy from the grid. Have you ever heard of this happening?

@Danielson761729 Kill 2 birds with one stone. Solve our countries energy problems, and the obesity epidemic! People should seriously have these hooked up to their TV's. Or at least batteries to run the TV. Your TV viewing time is dependant on the time you spent peddling to charge the batteries.
