A brief camera video of the evening vigil at Strawberry Fields in Central Park, New York City, December 8, 2007, marking the 27th anniversary of John Lennon's murder. Towards the end of the view you can make out the crowd singing the Beatles' "I'm only Sleeping." It was my first time visiting the Strawberry Fields memorial...I happened to be in New York City that day with friends to see the holiday lights. Toward mid evening were were walking through Central Park. I remembered that it was the anniversary of Lennon's death and wanted to visit the memorial but didn't know how to find it. It became simple enough...within a few hundred feet of the memorial I became aware of a great crowd singing. One can't describe the energy and love and joy and bittersweet feelings one encounters there...especially on December 8th. RIP John...you left us too soon.
what time does the celebration go on Oct 9th? i really want to go.

@TheOutsidersloover: This was taken on December 8th, the anniversary of John Lennon's death. They hold this tribute every year on the anniversary. I don't know if they do anything similar to this on the observance of his birthday. I can tell you that being there for the first time and seeing this a couple of years ago it was extremely moving to be a part of it. Hundreds of people singing, crying, a real peaceful scene. So much love there

It was so moving to be there for the anniversary of John's passing. I happened to be in NYC with friends that day last year just to see the holiday lights and visit the city. I remembered that it was Dec. 8th and suggested that we look for the Strawberry Fields memorial - I had never been there before. So glad I went. There was so much sadness but love in that crowd. John's music and message are both timeless.

Sorry for the very late response to your question. No, this was taken with a digitial camera (a Canon Powershot). YouTube used to allow you to re-size videos to their original sizes (if they were smaller) but now they don't. At its original size the video quality is much better.
