The Pathology of Privilege Racism, White Denial & the Costs of Inequality
For years, acclaimed author and speaker Tim Wise has been electrifying audiences on the college lecture circuit with his deeply personal take on whiteness and white privilege. In this spellbinding lecture, the author of White Like Me: Reflections on Race from a Privileged Son offers a unique, inside-out view of race and racism in America. Expertly overcoming the defensiveness that often surrounds these issues, Wise provides a non-confrontational explanation of white privilege and the damage it does not only to people of color, but to white people as well. This is an invaluable classroom resource: an ideal introduction to the social construction of racial identities, and a critical new tool for exploring the often invoked - but seldom explained - concept of white privilege.

I'm the first Black person in my family to grow up in a relatively decent lifestyle. I live in an all-white area. I'm 23 yrs old. Both my parents of course started in the ghetto where my grandparents were forced to raise them because mostly all of their rights were denied. People wouldn't even hire Blacks to jobs here and I live in Wisconsin. My grandfather had to drive like 2 hours to work everyday. I appreciate people like Tim Wise. My dad worked his ass off from nothing and thankfully
I wasn't born in the ghetto where the rest of my family all lives. :( I will say that living the decent life still has it's disadvantages. Take the internet for example. 74% of the population is White while 13% is Black and most Blacks are poor and don't have access to the internet so viewpoints are always swinging in the direction of particular Whites who don't like Blacks. I've also noticed that in many areas of the net if even a Black person is the topic, there's anti-Black remarks
things could always be worse though. I could have lived before the 1980s. At least Whites I come past in every day life aren't dickholes and I can look in there direction without being brutalized and sent to jail
His point is that White Privilege is a concept, not that people of a certain skin tone don't exist. Realize that this is more theoretical than biological talk here. He's not saying that biologically, people don't have light complexions, he's saying that just because they look alike, doesn't mean that they have a lot in common.
Rich Whites used the fact that they looked like poor Whites to their advantage. They pretended that a bond existed, so they could keep the poor poor and remain wealthy.
I don't think he's "blaming" poor Whites, he's just a passionate speaker. Passionate about that piece in particular because they still have not snapped out of it. I understand it as almost a plea, like you would with a family member addicted to narcotics: "Snap out of it!" You know?
White House party crashers Michaele an Tareq Salahi wanted a reality show with Bravo TV. How come they both are not arrested? If they were Black, they would have been under the jail. There is no such thing as White Privledge? Now if it's that easy to get next to the Pres. like that, you might get some sicko that might get through secret service like they did an do harm. You all are so clueless, most of you all seem educated with research, but sometimes being educated can still make you lost. Sad
To aldeb: Arrested for what, exactly? If it turns out they committed a crime, they will be. Be that as it may, if you want to see black privilege in the justice system, look no farther than OJ Simpson or Lemrick Nelson - proved guilty beyond any doubt, yet acquitted.
I would have been arrested for a trespassing. It's a crime (beleive it or not) There's no way the Secret Service would have let me waltz in there an they don't check me. (even with a tuxedo on). Black priviledge in the justice system, I guess most Whites that get arrested wish they were Black. Guess what, I think OJ did it!! I know your shocked by that!! I also think Affirmative Action is B.S.! I guess that knocks most Whites socks off too!!

Isn't his entire point that White Privilege is a joke, a trick pulled by rich Whites in order to keep poor Whites from thoughts of "rebellion"?
And, I have to disagree with the last bit. Money will always trump everything.
