just saw this on TV...i'm so glad to see that the CG is getting some credit finally. I served 2004 - 2008, and my biggest pet peeve was always hearing form ignorant people "oh you're not military, you're just coast guard."

@thecoastguardchannel Thanks for clearing that up for me. I'm a member of the Coast Guard Channel community and a huge fan. You guys are up there with the History Channel as far as I'm concerned and I didn't think you'd forget Jerry on purpose. Thanks for all you do to promote the USCG I'll purchase a copy of the DVD from Amazon.

This is a fantastic video depicting the Coast Guard's involvement in Vietnam. The only disappointing thing was that Engineman Second Class Jerry Phillips USCG was also killed in action August 11 1966 in the so called "friendly fire" incident involving the Point Welcome and he was not mentioned in the video. i had the honor and privilege of knowing them both. Truly U S Coast Guardsmen were the unsung heros of the Vietnam War. Semper Paratus

Jim, this is a short clip from the one hour documentary we produced for the Military Channel which still airs. If you're interested you can purchase the DVD on Amazon. There is a longer segment devoted to the Point Welcome and we didn't fail to bring out Jerry's story.
