China has the largest risk of corruption across all industries according to a new report. A US firm has compiled data from global corruption cases under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. The act covers foreign companies listed in the US or US companies trading overseas.

China poses the broadest corruption risk across all sectors of any country in the world, according to a new report.

US investigative firm James Mintz Group has complied a report on corruption across the world. It lists penalties that have been paid in bribery cases under the United States' Foreign Corrupt Practices Act by US companies operating overseas or overseas companies listed in the US. The data is presented in an interactive map.

While Nigeria is the country where the highest amount of penalties for bribery have been paid since the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act was introduced in 1977, these cases were mostly limited to the oil industry. Data for China showed penalties for corruption paid across all sectors of the industry—the broadest range of corruption cases in the world.

Commentators say bribery is so broad in China because the country lacks an independent judicial system.

[Cao An Ju Shi, Current Affairs Commentator]:
"The Communist Party controls the courts, the public security authorities and the investigative mechanisms. It has never allowed an independent judicial system. So in the aspect the actions of the Communist Party have allowed China to become a country without proper controls or a proper system of law."

Although the findings of the report are alarming, they may only represent the tip of the iceberg and they do not include domestically owned Chinese companies that are not listed in the United States.

The Foreign Corrupt Practices Act is a law in the United States that prevents US citizens from making payments to foreign governments or officials in order to obtain business. The act was expanded in 1998 to include foreign firms making bribery payments in the United States.

  • NTD is based in taiwan and antichina, if I wanted a report about china I'd ask a chinese national or a credible chinese association.

  • @ZhuSeth NTD is not anti-china, NTD tries to report on the issues on a western style journalism. We are trying to give the real facts you actually can't get in China, since the media over there are censored.

  • China does have bad corruption problems, like any country.

However, NTDTV has always exaggerated negativity and distorted positivity in China. They use non-existing and/or unqualified people as "experts" to slander China. In this report, the US has 0 corruption, Philipines, Pakistan, India, etc... (well known for suffering from widespread and severe corruption) aren't even realistically portrayed. What is even more idiotic is that the source they got this from is elementary level.

  • @Ravensteinzh We appreciate the fact you raise your opinion. But NTD has no interest in distorting China related information. We really strive to give an alternative voice, and that is why Chinese people in Mainland China support us by sometimes even risking their own lives to send us feedbacks. We are in no case exaggerating the reality of these facts. Thank you for your support, and for watching NTD, have a wonderful day !

  • Everyone knows that China is corrupt, and that it's not a safe place to live or do business. Someday that might change--and I sincerely hope it does--but, for now at least, that's just the way it is. Denying it won't make anything better, will it?

And comparing China to other countries is just stupid, because this is a report about "China". Would yelling "So-and-so robbed twice as many people as me!" make anyone less of a crook? No, not at all--and that is not a valid defense. (五十步笑一百步)

  • @Aaaaarrrrrrggghhh They made the report, what did you expect? :)

  • The friend of a friend of a moms was in China for little while, and due to transportation reasons, many people use skooters to ride to work etc down there, and accidently a foreginer killed a young chinese girl while on one, so in response, china arrested any foreigners riding skooters and the friend of a friend of my moms was arrested and tossed into a jail for absolutly nothing and was stuck in that jam packed place for like 10 days.

  • @NTDTV haha bullshit your imperialist dogs however I just watch your silly show to see the strikes. Taiwan dog

  • China is still going to become the No.1 economy in a few years time...

  • @NTDTV It is not opinion I am raising, I am giving simple facts. According to the UN sources as well as many other sources, the nations I've just named, amongst others, are ranked as being far more corrupt than China. Yet NTDTV just has to choose a source, rather unqualified, showing otherwise. How does not add up to blatant exaggeration?

  • Look no further than wall street and western finance. Add DC and its wall street connections to this picture. Add the War racketeering and the obscene level of fraud and corruption involved. The military industrial complex. The prison industrial complex. All of these are but a few examples of fraud, corruption, abuse, wealth transfer, wealth destruction, theft, robbery, and kickbacks on absolutely mindnumbing and incomprehensible scales that makes anything else look like a joke, a toy.

  • According to Anglo-American quack logic:

China is corrupt because instances of corruption can be framed in a picture and shown to some dumb honkee american. Honkee american then jumps up and down in righteous outrage.

The west is not corrupt because instances of corruption cannot be framed in a picture and shown to their citizen bobblehead. Instead corruption is neatly hidden via sophistication or exists on scales that cannot be conveniently shown in a picture frame to the masses.

    QED.

  • If everyone knows that China is corrupt, that means that everyone is aware that the Government is corrupt, and yet you accept that? Are the Chinese people happy that their CCP controlled society is being lead in a corrupt way?? Surely not. So the truth being reported, which is just a statement of fact as in this report by NTDTV, should be applauded for highlighting a problem. Corruption can be maintained if no one speaks out!!
