This is my 3dmax tornado, its constructed with 10 particel systems and 6 spacewraps to control the particle tracks. Composited with combustion 4.

You need some camera tracking tool. So you can recognize the camera movement from the footage and translate it to the animation software.

did u use afterburn, didnt u?, if so, avoid the dark edges using cubic instead of lineal or none.
