@Chromatype dude every technique was done somewhere else by somebody. I dont care what it is. When we THINK one guy introduced two finger tapping there was probably some guitar player somewhere in Africa who was using that same technique. What Hendrix did for the guitar I can count on one hand how many guitar and bass players have done what he did. And you can't "break" Hendrix's playing down because what makes him great is what he was as a whole.. a complete guitar player and musician.
@atl2maryland When you break Hendrix's playing down 1)..octaves--WES did it first, 2)Bending strings--Done by many guitarists before him, 3)Blues licks--dozens of blues players( in particular Buddy Guy influenced Jimi greatly),4) chord playing ( his two note fourths were a common thing used by Curtis Mayfield PRIOR to Jimi) He did establish guitar feedback and aggressive playing ideas like flicking his tongue while holding a tremolo and raising his arm while using the other to fret notes.
@Chromatype and anyhow you said that hes been passed by too many MUSICIANS.. which is bullshit in itself. But I said guitar players not musicians. And let's be honest I can play stuff NOW that Hendrix probably wouldnt have been able to play then.. but does that mean I surpassed him harmonically. NO! Look at guitar before.. and then after Hendrix. Hmmm.. seems like a pretty huge leap for mankind.
@Chromatype Saying that he has been surpassed harmonically means nothing. Of course people are going to expand beyond what he did.. its been 40 yrs and its just so much that guitarists have been exposed to that Hendrix never was. That is irrelevant.. in one musicians career there is NO guitar player that has pushed the limits of their instrument like Hendrix. There are bass guitarists who have i.e. Jaco.. but you'd have to put a few guitarists work together to equal what Hendrix did by himself.
@atl2maryland Actually your statement is completely arguable! Since Hendrix, harmonically --his playing has been surpassed by too many musicians to even name. But I think he was a fantastic natural player still.
