Great review, but I'm somewhat surprised that you didn't give one of your 'Gateway Drug Awards' to this film. Most reviewers (myself included) would consider this film (along with some of Ghibli's films) as perfect entry-level films for non-anime people, and I've heard many of those anti-otaku folk say that they thought summer wars was spectacular.

Is there other criteria you look for in Gateway award winners?

@JesuOtaku I don’t consider Summer Wars to be a gateway drug (maybe the trailer, but not the actual movie) it was the first anime I saw after I started watching your reviews and (for me) it had too many characteristics that (I assume) anime fans would appreciate, but would seem weird to newbies (like voices, nose bleeds). the gateway drug (for me) was FMA (the original) and I have you to thank for that.

I saw the ending to this once... JUST the final like 10 minutes... I didn't know what it was called.. hehe ^^;
