Throw away the little toy hammers and buy a 3 or 4 pound "DEADBLOW" hammer. It worked great for me for 15 years of hoop setting. Bill

True, but sand-based lawns are the norm in the US and Canada, so it's easy to drive hoops without removing cores first. At the least I'd suggest these guys get a bigger hammer.
Twisting the hoop while driving it can permanently bend it.

This is pretty much the way everyone sets hoops in North America. Hoop clamps have been universal in the USA and Canada since the 1980s.
