I think comments should be disabled on posts like this. Not to devalue the contribution of others, but to encourage a look at the whole story as advocated multiple times here. If you're looking at the clip then moving down the comments section to see what the zeitgeist looks like before going to CNN you're cheating yourself of an opportunity. It also encourages jokers who only see this to throw in their hat, all the worse for we few looking for a crown or two... Objectivity Is.

@ThePoliticalMoose So why apologize to BP if he ment the court system dummy! Thats some idiot BS. So trust BP to pay directly to the people? LOL!! There an international company why not secure the funds for the victums of the gulf. Ur worried about the government using the money wrong but you get ur income tax refund every year. So how should BP pay? Just put $20 Billion in a big pile of money in the parrish and let the people divey it up huh? LOL!

You're an idiot. I never stated that BP shouldn't pay or anything of the like.
The point that Barton was making was that we already have a court system in place to handle claims. If a slush fund is set up then BP will be forced to settle every claim, no matter how unreliable or outrageous. BP caused a lot of damage but that doesn't mean they should have to pay illegitimate claims

@ThePoliticalMoose Stay with the facts! Fact 1: BP caused the spill. Fact 2: BP should pay for what they caused. Thats capitalism. You people wanting the government and tax payers to foot the bill for an international company is just as dumb as this guy. Rememer those are the facts and just plain common sence.

I would call what BP did to the entire gulf coast one of the worst environmental "shakedowns" we've seen in our lifetime. If the President is forcing them to pay for their mistake, and offering the taxpayers some protection for having to bail out yet another failed action on the part of private industry, I say "huzzah".
They got to the guy before he fully realized what a shit storm he stirred up. "The vice president said what?" If you thought his backpedaling was something a few hours later, wait till he's campaigning trying to put a spin on it. The GOP have become the party of corporations in an era when corporations are often justifiably reviled. It was an idiot move on his part. Corporations may finance him, but the people are still the ones casting votes.

He's like, "What? Usually when I kiss corporate ass I am rewarded for it. Has something changed?"
