Health facilities in Jaffna enhanced.30.08.2009-itn news Sri Lanka

Many programmes are in place to improve the health facilities of the civilians of Jaffna under Uthuru Wasanthaya.
The upliftment of the health facilities is taking place on the instructions of the President and the guidance of Head of the Uthuru Wasanthaya Task Force and Senior Presidential Advisor and Parliamentarian Basil Rajapakse
Minister Douglas Devananda, Northern Governor G.A.Chandrasiri and GA Jaffna K. Ganesh were among a group which inspected the development work that is being carried out. 400 million rupees has been allocated for the improvement of health services in the Jaffna District. The Jaffna Teaching Hospital is already being developed. 80 percent of construction at the Chavakachcheri Base Hospital has been completed. It coast 50.2 million rupees. 11 million rupees has been spent on the construction of the maternity ward at the Manipai Hospital while the expenditure incurred on the OPD Unit of the Karaveddy Hospital is 15 million rupees. 50 percent of the construction has been completed. Nine million rupees is set aside to build the Primary Medical Clinic at Illavalai. 41 million rupees is set aside to enhance health facilities in the Kayts, Mandativu, Punkuditivu and Velanai islets. 10 million rupees is allocated for the development of infrastructure of the Medical Quarters in the Karainagar islands. 10 million rupees will be spent on the Maternity Ward of the Kodikaman Hospital in Thenmarachchi and 8.2 million rupees will be spent on construction of the Ayurvedha Drugs Centre at Atchuveli in Kopai. Construction work on these Projects has reached the final stage.
