Thank you for posting these informative videos. My sister has now a 3 months old SWD from Ubrique kennel. Can we trim him right now? we would like to show him as soon as the coat is long enoug. What do you advise? Thanks!

wondering if you can slow the first part down so that we could see how the scissors are used. In my studying pages on the Corded dog, it says it takes up to 12 hours for the dog to dry.. is that true?
thanks

Unless there's something wrong with his coat, I'd say enjoy that puppy coat for a few months longer! You'll want to start over (shave down) when the adult coat starts coming in, between 6-9 months because the puppy coat and adult coat are two different textures and you'll start seeing more mats. Of course, you can do the first hair cut whenever you like--there's no hard-set rule.

Sorry--I've long lost the original footage. Work with one blade from the skin, up. Remember, this is a last resort. Tearing the cords by hand is definitely superior to the scissor method.
Three ways you can dry a corded dog: with a forced-air dryer on a table to see what else needs to be torn; in a crate with 2-3 crate driers or 2-3 box fans; in the sun.

Using scissors is a last resort because it cuts the hair, and ideally you want the hair to remain long. When the hair at he base of the cord is cut, two things happen: 1) the cord can become weaker at the bottom and fatter at the top, and eventually tear off; 2) the short hair (from the skin) that is no longer attached will become curly again and can take a few months to grow into the established cord.
