The first question really just plays on the prejudices of the American people. Just mention a county with the suffix "istan" and - while the may not have ever heard of that country - it immediately brings to mind the Middle East. And of course, this naturally leads them to terrorism.
Its interesting to see that nobody just admitted they didn't know the answer or never heard of the made up country. There's no shame in admitting you just don't know something.
