This is a cover I recorded around November of '08 in my dorm. Everything you hear is me. I don't claim to sing anything like Daniel, but I gave it a good try.

The drums are Fxpansion's BFD 2 (programmed MIDI) using a preset I created that kinda matched the "BE" sound. Since then I've created better presets, but oh well. They are played on keyboards and later quantized. The orchestra parts were painstakingly transcribed and memorized by me, lol, I didn't feel like writing it all down, so, don't ask me for the sheet music (though I suppose I can bounce a mix of the strings by themselves, or any other instrument for that matter). The instrumentation is the same as in the "BE" DVD. I played each instrument individually for a more realistic sound using IK Multimedia's Miroslav Philharmonik. Piano is Native Instruments Akoustik Piano. Guitars, bass, and (obviously) vocals are real. Recorded and mixed in Logic Pro 8.0.

I changed the song quite a bit towards the end and added extra harmonies and stuff, so tell me what you think. I put a few pics of me once in a while to kinda remind you it's not the original.. though I couldn't find any really good ones of the actual recording of the song. W/e, doesn't matter.

Hope you like it :)

Diffidentia (Breaching the Core)

"I will never submit to all
the things you've said God..."

Imago:

We're breaching the core...

To taste it, to touch it...
Cut my hand!
To crave it, enslave it...
Pluck my eye!

I can never submit to all the things
you've said God - if you want me
dead, I'm right here God. But fear is
a funny thing God, in that it gives
you the strength to resist just about
anything God! And friend turns to
enemy so easily when you defend
your legacy with guilt and talk of
blasphemy.

God - you know; you created a
golden cage for your sheep; a stage
too wide and deep for us to even see
the play. But hey, you know what
they say about catching the bird, but
you can't make it sing? You lose the
bird the second it loses its wings, just
like I reckon you will lose your herd
to choirs of I am, I am, I am and
mountains and mountains of money
and things!

We're breaching the core...
All breaching!
We're breaching the core...
Still breaching!

Animae:

Help me I'm starting to fade...
Save me I'm drifting away...

Imago:

But we can change
We can change...?
I said we can change!

We can change, we can change...
Still breaching!
We can change, we can change...
Still breaching!

I hold it, I'm never letting go!

I settle for rash rather than risk going
to slow...

I sought it, I killed it, but now I know!

I'm left somewhat broken but I won't
let it show...

Hear me now!

Animae:

Man is shattered - I am shattered!
My shards have become shards of
their own; pieces of pieces, impos-
sible to put back together, spending
their lives seeking a context they
were always a part of. And so, they
leave the context, and we shrink, I
fade - and nothing more can be learnt
or taught. I have no choice but to
leave them to their own devices.

I have come to understand one thing
and one thing alone - one little piece
of understanding, glowing through
this void of blankness and clean slates
like a beacon of hope - or just a re-
minder that I was always wrong:

Searching for yourself is like looking
for the house you stand in; how could
you possibly find it? It's everywhere.
It's all you know. And there are no
other points of reference!

Help me I'm starting to fade
Save me, I'm drifting away

Help me, I'm dying now

(Imago: What are these stains? They
stay, stay when it rains...)

Curtains before my final bow

(Imago: ...burning my skin. It's burn-
ing... burning... burning my skin!)

Drifting, just drifting away

(Imago: Burning... Take it away, it's
burning me... Burning my skin!)

Leaving with all that's still left to say

(Imago: Now life... now life... fails our
kin!)

I failed
I failed
We failed
We failed...

COMING SOON: Handful of Nothing (vocals needed) and People Passing By (Just have drums so far)! Maybe I'll have them both done by April.

  • AMAZING job dude, congrats :D I mostly HATE covers, but you had me listening till the end! very good job

  • @DeusDeceit Thanks, that's awesome! :)

  • I don't see the point of redoing a song, but it's amazingly well done

  • @eloann There are many points:

    1) Great ear training exercise.

    2) Great recording/MIDI sequencing experience

    3) I get to study his style very closely

    4) I changed the ending a bit and got to try some of my ideas.

that's what I can think of at the moment. I'm working on two albums. One of originals and one of covers. Doing this is one of the most productive activities I can think of.

    Thanks for the compliment :)

  • Amazing, but I wish you were more emotional on the spoken parts

  • @ARRGHcheese me too :)

  • Wow. I clicked on this expecting crap and I find not just an amazing cover, but pretty much an exact replica of the original. Not only were the instruments right on, you sang it almost exactly like Daniel. All I can say is... Bravo. 5/5

  • When the song was reaching its end, I forgot that what I was listening to wasn't the real PoS. Congratulations!

  • it's good. but mmm for the vocals...there's something missing, idk you should have put more emotion more strength in it, especially the talking parts; i had the sensation that it was a voice coming from a machine. anyway, it's pretty good though

  • really good cover but the singer should sing with ''more balls''

  • @TheHikingMule

    What?

  • @Proghead88

    WELL DONE !!!!!!!!!

  • @ARRGHcheese it's very good really, but it's a bit of a request to demand someone being more emotional on some parts, because the reason Daniel's so emotional on them comes from the fact he wrote them. Though that's exactly what an actor's doing, you can command emotions, but when it's not from you, you'll hardly reach the same feelings..

  • great one! How did you do the drums and the orchestra?
