  • @iowalady1 1. If you're not sure of your shapes. 2. To keep control of the surface even if you are sure of the shapes. 3. If you've moved a lot of paint around fighting shapes over the course of the painting, this will miraculously show an average of all your work and you'll have a much better likeness.

    If you look at a lot of unfinished historic works, it appears this was a common practice. Try it, it's one of the most useful things I know in painting.

  • These videos are outstanding. We need more. I'll try to use some of your best practices both in my painting and in my little instructional vignettes.
