People may be tired of listening to words such as "Environmental Impact on the Planet". However, it is a fact, the total impact of humans on the globe is influenced by two main factors. Both these factors concern the entire population. The factors are, total number of people living in the planet and the average impact of every individual. This means, the amount of waste produced by a person and the amount of waste produced by the population. Irresponsible consumerism, non-recycling attitudes and reckless behaviour is not only causing problems with the environment, it is causing human health problems, and sometimes even death. When it comes to the environment, we instantly think about Climate Change. We think about rising temperatures, emissions, carbon dioxide, greenhouse effects, storms, rains and earthquakes. However, most of us miss out on that which is closer to us. We see it and produce it every day, garbage, trash or waste. How do different lifestyles impact the environment? How many decisions taken everyday cause pollution? How much waste is produced? Waste, garbage or trash, in the year 2010, has become an invisible secret that is everywhere in the cities. It is a source of great concern. Waste is not only a direct source of pollution it has a high Carbon Footprint. The Environmental Protection Agency reported that the United States produces approximately 220 million tons of garbage each year. This is equivalent to burying compacted waste in more than 82,000 football fields six feet deep underground. Considered that the United States makes up about 4% of the World's population we can estimate the Global production of waste is of approximately 4 to 5 billion tons per year. Some say the amount of garbage could fill enough trucks to form a line to the moon. But lets get down to Earth. In major cities like, Los Angeles, London, Japan or Buenos Aires, waste is produced daily in great numbers. The world wide production of waste amounts to mountains of trash. So, where does all the waste go?
