I didnt build it but he used regular rc car servos for the steering and the foward movement. I have upgraded the drive servo to a stronger one. But basically the insides are not much different than a rc car .. speed controller, reciever, battery pack for drive motor and reciever.

no you cannot drive it without doll. It could be done with some work. The doll stores the battery packs.. So they could be mounted to the bike I suppose without Billy...But why would you want to do that. As for the steering. The way it works is there is a simple rc servo mounted under the seat. Its a 90 degree servo. There is a cable hooked to each side of the servo. The cables run through the frame to the steering/front wheel assembly. As you turn the rc controller left or right.

Can you take the doll off and still drive just the tricycle? Do you think that you could take a video of the parts steering the trike in detail if possible? I'm trying to make one of these and am stuck on the steering.

the servo then pulls the cables causing the steering assembly to turn.
