The opening monologue of Richard III. Richard is unhappy because his country is at peace, and peace is a time for lovers which, because of his deformity, he is not. Therefore, he will 'prove himself a villian.' Richard sets his brother and the king in conflict, all designed to further Richard's goal: to become king.
