I tried doing this with the following problem, but I end up with a wrong answer:
x^-4 + y^-4 / x^-1 + y^-1
the answer I got from using this method is 1, while the actual answer is supposed to be Y^4 + X^4 / X^3Y^4 + X^4Y^3.
did I make an error somewhere?

2/((2/x)+(2/y)).
according to the book the answer is xy/x+y but I keep getting stuck on
(2/1) times (xy)/(2y+2x)
