Here's me clocking a 45, after a two decade hiatus, exposing myself to the dragon's breath once more. Used to clock sub 20's with a few 13's on the dragon. The dragon. A beast of such power that if you were to see it whole and complete in a single glance, it would burn you to cinders. Ready my knights for battle. They will ride with their king once more....

Trivia note for enthusiasts: that cube is 25 years old. It was from Rubik's Game and had pegs that go into those plastic (not paper) sides. After I lubed it up it became one of my fastest speedcubes in the day. After pulling out of the closet days ago I ran an old number and it burst into pieces and the axis cracked. I glued it back the day before this video but it's still highly unstable so the turns are nursed with care...need to order a DIY.

  • Nice job, faxodont. I wish I'd done more of that kind of problem solving back in the days...

Do your cats help at all?

  • they help scrambling it up or knocking it out of my hands :-)

  • Let me ask you. Did you do this after hours of practice, memory or intsnict? I've seen people do this many times but can't pinpoint the ability they use to accomplish this. I've always thought it was instnict. Am I wrong?

  • It was more like years of practice 20 years ago. I'm rusty now. It's just a bunch of memorized moves combined with some finger tricks for fast turns and advanced pattern recognition based in years of experience observing the cube and solving it 1000's of times...
