Recorded Dec. 3, 1964, on Nat's last day ever in a recording studio, this is one of his last and one of his all-time best, "Girl From Ipanema". Nat would die from cancer 72 days after this was recorded.

  • Like.. Wow, I'm really loving this song. :) Never been too big on oldies like this, but I like this jazzy feel. On a side note, any idea who the lady in black and white on the beach is? She's at 0:57

  • @MisterFleshcage Just a model as far as I know. Thanks for the comments.

  • Did Nat ever record a bad song? I can't think of one. Every song he sang, he did a wonderful job. Most artist record a song that you just don't like, but not so with Nat King Cole. Everyone has a favorite.

  • @MrGeter76 I'm probably one of the biggest Nat Cole fans on the face of the earth, but he "missed" a few times (sometimes even the greatest did). I won't post the "misses". Thanks for the note.

  • IS THIS A SWING VERSION OF THE BOSSA NOVA CLASSIC?

  • @NormanMac Well, I'm not sure one could call this a "swing" version, but it's Nat's interpretation of the original bossa-nova classic which was still a relatively new song at the time Nat recorded this. This may have been Nat's last ever recording in a studio shortly before he died.

  • @MisterFleshcage I know i am replying to late, but if you haven't hear it, check out Elaine Elias version of this song. In my opinion this kind of song should keep as it is, with the Brazilian touch and not try to jazz it to much, if you check Diana Krall an explendid pianist, she really destroyed this song.

  • great jam

  • Well we surely miss Nat, Sinatra, Martin, Sammy Davis, Ella, Louis etc etc But i would say that Michael Buble, Harry Conick, Diana Krall, etc are the one's we have now so lets cherish them.

  • @MrGeter76

Never, not in his life time, and forever more.

  • @MisterFleshcage

Thanks for asking that question. She sure looks familiar.

  • Une des plus belles interprétations :)

  • Me gusta mas la versión de Rosemary Clooney y Diana Krall de 1998 en el álbum Brazil..pero como la brasilera de Ivete Sangalo no hay!!!

  • @MrGeter76 'Ramblin Rose', that's the only one that springs to mind. But his vocal performance was always exceptional, and I'm sure a lot of people like that song. And lets keep in mind that beyond his magnificent voice, he is one of the greatest Jazz pianists of alltime. His trio albums are cornerstones of Jazz piano playing.
