Raytheon Occupation

On the 12th January 2009 after a ten year campaign to remove the Arms company, raytheon, from the city action was taken again to occupy the Raytheon premises. 9 woman representing the Derry Anti War Coalition (DAWC) entered the building at 2:30pm and made their way to the top floor were the Raytheon offices are located. They were unable to make their way into the offices and destroy the computers as planned but did manage to chain themselves in the corridor outside till 6:30pm on the same day. A large number of people turned out to support the women and what followed was an intented peaceful protes. All women were allowed to walk free but five seperate arrests took place including a man in his sixties. As you can see the police were very heavy handed even though it was emphisised that this was a Peaceful protest.

well isn't this just pathetic. Here we see the local people of derry protesting against a company that provides jobs for LOCAL people, now in the state that the economy is in with hundreds of jobs being lost in this country, these protesters are threatening these LOCAL jobs and also scaring awatyother future investors in the city. Now isn't that just stupid!!!! Why would do that to the people of your own city? and Im from derry, so thanks a lot!!!!!

There is a simple response to this. 30 jobs in Raytheon in Derry, 1300 dead in Gaza in three weeks. Does that explain it. Also I think the only investors we will scare away are other arms companies and isn't that a good thing???

Raytheon Tech should relocate to say, the former Seagate site in Limavady where their workers could get to work in peace and produce their excellent products.

I fully understand that Hamas have been killing Israelis also, but lets look at the facts in the current 'conflict'. 13 Israelis have died, and 10 soldiers and 3 civilians. How many Gazans have died 1132 and constantly rising. When exactly were you refering to, because as far as I can remember Hamas agreed to and stuck to the truce until Israel broke it on November 4th.

oh i think its disgusting what happened in Gaza, but its not our problem!!! This is a cruel evil world that will always have the need for weapons, we're so dependent on them and they're never gonna go away and i hate knowing that! but in the end every country must be able to defend itself. Well im sure you'll hear all about it if even 30 jobs were taken from derry people...
