Roy was always a good songwriter as well as performer.

@grae911 much Billy Connolly?

@grae911 I've always liked Flower of Scotlas as well, but if a national anthem has to be chanted rather than sung, with various additions to the lyrics sung in between the real lyrics, then I don't think it should be our national anthem, much as I'd like it. Actually I think we might as well abolish national anthems & just sing whatever song we feel like singing on the occassion. We should have an official tune though, maybe the theme tune from the Archers. What d'you mean I've been watching too

Just a correction. Scotland the Brave was written by Cliff Hanley Scottish writer and broadcaster, born Glasgow 1922 brought up in Shettleston. Worked in Glasgow all his life.

Roy wrote the words and music. The arrangement was a joint effort.
Haven't heard it for ages - so true even in 2009.

dont be daft - we dont have a scottish national anthem Scotland the brave was written by an englishman for the commonwealth games. dawning of the Day would be a great anthem but Flower of scotland gives me a lump in my throat
