  • For gjsjrr

The song is called "You Nearly Lose Your Mind"

    It's by Earnest Tubb

    1942 or thereabouts

Just saw Leon Redbone at the Bijou in Knoxville, TN.

I wanted to see him for ages and finally got my chance. This man is one of the funniest people you will ever see on stage, full of homespun (but very dry) wit. And he's a living encyclopedia of early 20th century music.

  • Thanks for the name!

  • Runescribe,

I never get tired of this song. (Or of Leon Redbone).

I've heard a lot of Ernest Tubb's songs w/o ever knowing where they came from. Now I know what to buy.

    Thanks for the information.

  • I intend to post more of this concert soon.

  • I must contend that the DeZurik Sisters' version owns over all others!! :)

From a woman's perspective, the context change a little, and the yodeling adds much needed flavor to an otherwise generic country song. ......IMHO

  • great version of this old Ernest Tubb song. love that 'hard pluckin' style Leon's got.

  • In an interview years ago, Leon was hedging on details of his past. 'Well, I come from a long line of celebations'. The interviewer, Shirley Stamper Williams, then responded, 'Oh...then it's a wonder you were born at all!' She said he 'took up' with her from that point on, and the article met with his approval.

  • omg..i cannot sit still when he performs..he is just great..that is all i can say...more more more more

  • leon is to cool,i love his guitar style

  • Buy his Christmas CD "Christmas Island." It is really the best x-mas cd made. He has Dr John and some great backups. We bought it when it came out in '87 and can't wait to get it out around the holidays!

Thanks for the post! He played here in Mich tonight. WE WANT MORE.... where's all the old SNL performances?

  • That's got to be one of the greatest saxophonists ever.

    (John Gill). Thanks again.

  • Please, do.
