I just got the 12x36 harbor freight- identical part for part with grizzly and shop fox(and others). Retail $1999 and with the Easter coupon $1500. With freight and tax $1706 to my curb. I had no problem keeping within .001" with the smithy 12x20. I guess farm machinist is making parts for space x. For the price, you can't beat the "chinese junk" . It's a global economy now and paying more just to buy american actually hurts "our" economy.
well why did you buy a cheep lathe? ask hoss at hoss machine what he can do with a grizz.....mabe your just a bad machinist? hsm had a artical about referb southbends....if i had 12,000 it would rock. or 7 or 8 g's for a nice rebuilt bridgeport.
If you like producing sub-par parts ... then by all means buy a Grizzly or some other cheap Chinese piece of crap.
Here's another example ... my lathe's spindle through tube of so out of wack that I can't use the $300 collet closer I bought for it because it will bounce the lathe across the shop floor ... again ... according to Grizzly ... it's within spec.
If I knew then what I know now ... I would've bought a refurbished South Bend lathe and Bridgeport mill instead of Grizzly's junk.
Buy American ... Grizzly tends to sell cheaply made Chinese junk ... I have a mill and lathe and both have issues and have trouble holding high precision tolerances on parts. I wish I'd spent the extra money on a quality machine now instead of trying to a save some money.
Grizzly's tolerances are a freaking joking ... my milling machine for example ... it's table has 0.004" run-out across the surface (warped on one end) but according to Grizzly it's within spec ... lol.
I was shopping for a lathe and I was looking at grizzly and comparing it to birmingham lathe. I noticed that the two machines are Identical. The birmingham is less expensive. Any opinions on which is better.
Why did you put that subtitle shit right in the way of the view??

They both sell cheap chinese stuff. From what I hear though, Grizzly has higher QC standards than the other companies selling the same stuff.

Grizzly has great customer service and technicians to help you out if you run into a problem ... main reason I went with a Grizzly.
