This documentary is about our overuse of petroleum gas and illustrates this issue through two distinct perspectives. Recorded during the all-time-high of gas prices, this film captured a moment in US history.

This is my video project for BAVC my video class. I made it in collaboration with Maya Lorton over the course of about four months.

The documentary has been in several film festivals including the National Film Festival for Talented Youth (NFFTY).

What is gas?
well the first thing that's odd is that gas is not a gas
Gas is a liquid
We mean gasoline
Gas is the stuff that we get out of the ground, refine, and then use to move move us ourselves and stuff around.
Gas is something that is polluting our atmosphere, changing the climate, causing political complications with with all sorts of nations
Gas is a complicated and rather dastardly liquid

Well America gets most of its gasoline from other countries
We still get a fair amount from our own reserves but they are depleting rapidly

Many people think it's quite worthwhile to go just a little bit out of their way to get certified lead-free Amoco gasoline

Gas is... it's it's made from like old trees and dinosaur parts from millions of years ago and theyre compressed and they created this substance. And then Herry Ford woke up one day and decided to make a car and said,
"I'm gonna dig in the ground! Take that stuff out! And I'm gonna go gasoline instead of diesel" (which they were both like ten cents a gallon back then)

AAAAHHHH

uh heheheh

To get gas---To get petroleum out of the ground from places that are politically complicated such as Saudi Arabia, or Kuwait, or Venezuela, or Russia. Leads us to make decisions about foreign policy and decisions as to where we might need to commit troops and what wars we fight that we might not otherwise choose to make

The rising gas prices- oh my God. Everytime i step outside my car or drive by a gas station, I can just see them numbers turning upward-- and i don't understand why? Why do gas prices keep increasing?

The rising gas prices makes the economy less efficient
It taxes not only the consumers that have to buy gasoline to go to work--- Everything that we get these days requires petroleum in the form of diesel or gasoline to get it to us. So the cost of everything is gonna go up as the cost of petroleum goes up.

Just gotta change things up a bit. We needa find new sources of energy.

From the smallest things, changing lightbulbs to compact fluorescent lightbulbs

We've got this great big ball in the sky. I can barely see cause, it's so bright. That generates heat.

Recycling, composting,

We've got this big body of water called the pacific. That's the largest body of water in the world. Just imagine if you put some kind of little device that did like this. That could generate some kind of power.

  • Nice work, Adam and Maya! However, electric cars are far from green. The batteries they require are not manufactured in this country so the environmental costs of getting them here are huge. Plus, people like new cars and what happens to old clunkers, electric ' hybrids is, they end up in land fill leaking nasty oil and battery acid. Not to mention fire retardant chemicals that are now detected in breast milk! Cars are not green!

  • deep, good

  • as always, GENIUS work adam!
