Total Lunar Eclipse December 21, 2010
New York, NY Celestron 4SE telescope. All exposures were taken with Canon 40D. Backyard astronomy and digital astrophotography. Weather in New Your during the eclipse time was fantastic, but a little bit cold.

The eclipse of December 21 2010 Tuesday morning was the first total lunar eclipse to occur on the day of the Northern Winter Solstice - the shortest day and longest night of the year (Southern Summer Solstice) since 1638 (first time in 372 years), and only the second in the Common Era. That will not happen again until 2094.

The eclipse was the first total lunar eclipse in almost three years, since the February 2008 total lunar eclipse. It is the second of two lunar eclipses in 2010.

Partial eclipse begins 1:33am EST
Total eclipse begins 2:41am EST
Middle of eclipse 3:17am EST
Total eclipse ends 3:53am EST
Partial eclipse ends 5:01am EST

  • Hi, May i ask? Why U chose Celestron 4" over 8" ? Seems super strange, given Your incredible virtuosity & devotion !!?? Would appreciate answering. All your vids r impeccable & highly educative to say the least! I`m aiming at Cel. 8", live in NYC & complete noob in "backyard" dig. astrophotogr.Don`t have "backyard"- building ,so it`s going be dragging 8" Celst. by firestarecase 1 flight on roof. Still going to get 8" over 4". Thank U !!

  • @111nuthead I would call it minimalism + some additional challenge to use small scope. 4SE scope has reasonable price, good quality and it is enough mobile. But of cause, for bigger scope you will get better images. Only sky is limit. Thanks and good luck

  • Very Nice!!! It was really cool to see that :)

  • @EmilineTDD Thanks!

  • Cool video! Nice colors!

  • @julik7723 Thanks!

  • @astroval1 Hi, ".. The Universe in a Nutshell.." ?? I think, i understand U... Really! appreciate your reply. Do u ever use or plan to use H-Alpha Coronado PST or it is almost redundant ? Please keep those astrovideo gems coming. Every bit of shared "How to" technicality ,which u do plenty of, is very, very appreciated. Thanks. Clear skies .

  • Amazing.

  • @EmilineTDD
