John Challis, the Freedom teenager whose battle against cancer brought national attention to Beaver County, died at home on Tuesday. The 18-year-old also inspired some of his younger teammates on Freedom's baseball team; they tell Newsbreak they'll miss his presence in school and on the field.
he really was a fighter and a tremendous kid, he was only 2 years older than me when he passed away, i wish i new him i could of learned alot from him. i remember first hearing the story in in june 08 when it aired, i was down the shore with a few friends and during the broadcast on ESPN we all were in silence threw the whole part, when i found out again on ESPN in august that he died, it was so sad.
