@tabcan Isn't the US suck a great place.... They should make it anything over a number of cc has to be registered, a 15 foot sailboat doesn't and that could destroy docks and boats.

@blackdogxx Where did you buy your Suzuki 2.5hp for $600? Thats a good deal and I'm looking to buy myself.

I have the same motor and it over heat after about 20mins at 2/3 throttle.. what can I do.. is so hot smoke started to come out.
-
@tabcan in australia anything under 6hp you dnt need a license. or have to have it registered :)

I have the same outboard on a 14 foot jon boat. It's enough to use for fishing lakes in Virginia and moves the boat fast enough for most purposes. adjusting the idle to slow while engaged, you can troll with it. I also use a bow mounted trolling motor.
The sales guy advised me to take a Suzuki (about $600 new) over Honda or Mercury. The Suzuki are known for their reliability among pros.
Your video prompted me to buy the Suzuki DF2.5................thanks

@LowCostCncRetrofits Thanks. I wish I had more videos to share. I'm working so many hours that I seldom get the chance to take it out on the water.

question.... do you need to register that boat? and do you need a license?

@slaughterbat In most states, any boat that is propelled by a motor or engine must be registered. In my case it wasn't expensive at all but the paperwork required was unbelievable!!! I spent months trying to get it legal, but that was mostly due to government red tape. It was one of the most legally challenging things I've ever attempted. I had to prove that the prior owner's had never registered it in their name. It required afadavits galore, a certificate or origin from the mfg, etc.

@tabcan I highly recommend that if you buy a used boat OF ANY TYPE OR SIZE, get a notarized bill of sale, and keep the contact information of the previous owner. Beyond that, make sure you can forge the heck out of any legal document.
By the way, if I had bought it new, it would have been a 10 minute affair online to get it registered. Government is so screwed up!!
