Sony has introduced 2 new mirrorless compact digital cameras that use APS-C sensors and have interchangeable lenses. These 14-megapixel cameras can also capture full HD video, take Sweep Panoramas, have image stabilization and other popular and trendsetting features. Both cameras accept E-Mount lenses or can be used with an adapter to accept Sony's other lenses.
We see a lot of professional photographers carrying around a Sony NEX camera when they don't want to handle heavy equipment. But, when performance and high quality is at stake they use DSLR cameras. Consider your budget and the kind of photography you want to capture. Also, many of the newer cameras also do HD 1280p video which is a big plus. Either way you go will be a solid answer. (We don't do product reviews. These are only recommendations.)

Nice explanation of the features .
Could you please tell me how do you rate NEX3 against Sony D90 & Sony 5100. Also with bigger lens can it take pics equivalent to DSLR's ?

@eliteRC NEX-5 is better because the body is made from metal (forgot which one) and it shoots better video (NEX-3 = 720p, NEX-5 =1080p)

Question "which is better 1080i60 or 1080p30" does not have only one right answer.
It should be mentioned also that NEX5 has two video shooting modes: AVCHD and mp4. While the first one is definetly 1080i60, the second one is still a mystery to me, but probably it is progressive and it's vertical resolution is 1080 px.

The NEX 5 only does 1080i not 1080p

I only know that Nex-5 has the 1080P AVCHD video recording, and NEX-3 doesn't have.

NEX3 is made of a cheaper material, it only shoots HD 720p videos, the body design is different, you can get it in red, and its cheaper.
