But Kauto goes well fresh as he has shown frequently, so I'm not having the idea that his seasonal debut played a part in Monet's win that day- the weight, possibly did, yes. Well Chief was fancied to stay and the well touted and progressive Taranis couldn't land a blow. He didn't scope cleanly after the Ryanair in 07 although that doesn't excuse him from the King George in 06. And he won this years Old Roan when conceeding weight all around- there were some top horses in behind that afternoon.

Incredibly harsh. He's beaten a lot of top horses, like Kauto Star, Well Chief, Exotic Dancer and plenty more besides...

i will concede that this years old roan win was a decent effort but yes he may have beaten katuo but that was in a race where monets was perfectly entitled to win. he had the ground, track, trip and weights in his favour. clearly kauto stars connections had their eyes on the king george. that was only a prep.

well chief definetely 100% didnt stay and was the only truly top class rival to monets in the melling chase that year. taranis may have been progressive but was far from top notch.

he beat kauto star getting 14lbs over a shorter than ideal trip for kauto and on his seasonal debut. he beat a non staying well chief over 2 1/2 miles and he won a grade one at ascot beating thisthatandother who is no great shake.

when he has ran in a truly top class race he has been well and truly found out, namely the 2006 king george and the 2007 ryanair chase.

he is a typical nicky richards horse- looks good in weak races against weak opposition and gets found out against the big boys.
